That’s my daughter’s “ugly face.” She makes it every time Karina and I suggest eating somewhere she’s not into. But sorry kids, disappointment builds character, because I LOVE the pan roast seafood chowder at The Oyster Bar inside Sunset Station Casino. It’s epic.

One of the best, and sometimes most dangerous, parts of living in Henderson is the access to so much incredible food. I’d be lying if I said I haven’t gained a few pounds since moving here. Between jiu-jitsu and lifting weights, I’m doing my part, but I think the family and I might need to add a little more cardio into the mix.

We tried biking when we first got here, but those temperature swings were just too much for us. Now there’s a new Crunch Fitness opening on Lake Mead Blvd right down the street, so I might have to join and start hitting some classes (and, yes, actual cardio).

Where do you work out?

Some pizza places quietly earn a loyal following, and Settebello Pizzeria Napoletana is one of them. The pizzas are the clear star, with light, airy crusts and flavors that feel balanced and fresh.

The space is cozy with an easygoing feel, making it great for a relaxed lunch or an unhurried dinner. A dependable Henderson spot when only really good pizza will do.

Cool things are coming to Henderson!!! This week I got a sneak-peek at the two new Crunch Fitness locations coming to town.

For under $10 a month (one location) and under $30 a month (all locations) I think it’s going to be the best bang-for-your-fitness buck in town.

I love that new gym smell… and I was just commenting last week how the family needs to get into some cardio, spin, or high-intensity training (AKA HIIT) classes to help our jiu-jitsu.

The Gist: The Henderson Fire Department is now recruiting for its Fire Explorer Program, offering hands on training for future firefighters and paramedics. An orientation is set for Saturday, Jan. 10 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Henderson Fire Training Center. The program is open to motivated 16 to 24 year olds and includes firefighting skills, EMS training, fitness drills, and community events.
