Yep, that’s me below. Sweaty, going bald, in a donut-designed rashguard, and absolutely sweating my behind off while doing jiu-jitsu.
Four years ago when we moved to here, one of the first things I did was sign up at a jiu-jitsu gym. About a year before our family moved, me (at age 41), Gabe (5), and Alina (3) had started a new hobby during Covid. Jiu-jitsu.
I knew it was something we wanted to stick with, so we found the nearest gym and jumped in. What I didn’t realize at the time was that 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu Vegas, with locations in Henderson and mid-city Las Vegas, is one of the premier academies in the country. Their children’s program is especially next-level. For example, next year at ADCC (basically the Super Bowl of jiu-jitsu), our kids program will have 4 of the top 32 kids in the world competing. That still blows my mind.
And I definitely didn’t know this gym would end up becoming the epicenter of our social circle. Between the adult classes and the kids classes, we’ve made some incredible connections, found like-minded families (some even go to my wife’s school), and built friendships that feel like the real, lifelong kind.
Whether it’s 10th Planet in Henderson (10thplanetlasvegas.com), Hybrid Jiu-Jitsu in Summerlin (hybridjiujitsulv.com), or any of the dozens of other schools across the city, I can’t recommend enough getting you and your kids into a class. It’s been one of the absolute best things we’ve done as a family.

🚑 Boulder City launches ambulance membership
The Gist: Boulder City Fire Department is offering a new ambulance membership for residents 18 and older, covering two transports per year to a local hospital. Plans run $75 for individuals, $125 for families, and $125 plus $10 per extra person for the Family Plus option. Medicaid patients are already covered and do not need a membership. The program applies only within city limits, with refunds available if a third party ambulance is used.
Why It Matters: The program helps families manage emergency transport costs with predictability. A practical option for neighbors who want added peace of mind.
