Last week, while walking around meeting some local business owners, my daughter found a dollar on the street. She was thrilled and immediately wanted to go shopping. I had to explain to my 7-year-old that a dollar doesn’t quite go as far as it used to.

By the way, has anyone figured out how to explain to kids that a movie and popcorn outing for a family of four now costs around $100? Or that cars are $50,000 and the average house in Henderson runs about $500,000? Trying to break down a 30-year mortgage to a second grader feels a bit like me trying to speak Greek.

🐾 Henderson strengthens animal welfare and adoption rules

The Gist: Henderson City Council unanimously approved updates to city codes improving animal welfare protections and expanding livestock allowances. The new ordinance bans unpermitted public animal sales, strengthens cruelty laws, and allows residents to rescue pets in distress under “Reba’s Law.” Veterans and first responders can now adopt shelter animals for free, while Animal Protection Services can reduce or waive fees to ease overcrowding.

Why It Matters: The changes promote humane treatment, support rural residents, and make pet adoption more accessible. A compassionate move that shows Henderson’s heart for animals runs deep.
