Paws & Progress: Roseman University to Launch Nevada’s First Veterinary School in Henderson

With a visionary new dean and a mission to expand animal care access, Roseman’s upcoming College of Veterinary Medicine marks a major milestone for Southern Nevada.

Roseman University of Health Sciences, based in Henderson, NV, has officially submitted a Letter of Intent to the AVMA Council on Education, kick‑starting the accreditation and development process for Nevada’s first College of Veterinary Medicine.

🐾 Key Highlights

  • Founding Dean: Dr. Katherine Fogelberg has been appointed to lead the initiative. She's a seasoned veterinary professional—Army veteran, Ph.D. in science education, DVM from Texas A&M—and has vast experience in clinical practice, zoo/wildlife medicine, and veterinary education.

  • Focus & Model: The program aims to address veterinarian shortages across Nevada—including rural counties designated by USDA as high‑priority areas—through an innovative “hybrid, distributed clinical model.” Training will combine on‑campus instruction at Henderson with rotations in urban and rural partner clinics.

  • Next Steps: There's currently no official launch timeline. The LOI filing allows Roseman to develop curriculum, build clinical partnerships statewide (and possibly regionally), and navigate AVMA and regional accreditation processes.

Why This Matters for Henderson & Nevada

  • First of its kind: This will be Nevada’s first doctorate‑level veterinary school, filling a critical void in vet education and care.

  • Improved health access: Expanding the vet workforce will support both urban pet owners and rural livestock operations, boosting public health, food safety, and community resilience.
