The kids and I needed some outdoor time last week. We decided to ditch work & school (which is easier when my wife is the owner of Apogee), and go for a hike.
Contrary to popular belief, and locals understandably complaining about the summer heat, Las Vegas has a ton of outdoor activities to offer. We decided to go to Red Rock national park and hike the 3 miles loop up to this lookout point.

🏥 Boulder City hospital drops inpatient care
The Gist: As of May 1, Boulder City Hospital has shifted to a rural emergency model, ending inpatient stays after nearly a century. Emergency care, lab work, and outpatient services will still be available close to home, while patients who need longer care will be transferred to nearby hospitals.
Why it Matters: The change means Boulder City still has local access to urgent care when it’s needed most, which is important for a close-knit community. The biggest adjustment is that overnight stays will now happen out of town, so families may need to plan for transfers when longer care is required.
💧 Henderson saves billions of gallons
The Gist: Henderson’s H2One conservation program reduced citywide water use by over one billion gallons in its first year. The effort replaced water-heavy grass, expanded rebates, and encouraged residents and city facilities to cut usage during ongoing drought conditions.
Why It Matters: Water isn’t only an environmental issue here, it’s everyday life in a desert city. When usage drops this much, it helps protect Lake Mead levels and keeps long-term costs and restrictions from hitting families and neighborhoods harder.
