If you’ve ever thought about putting your thoughts on paper—or finally finishing that story you’ve been sitting on—this might be your sign. Henderson Libraries is bringing back its Adult Writing Contest, and this year’s theme, “Pathways,” opens the door to all kinds of creative possibilities. Whether you’re into fiction, poetry, or nonfiction, this is a great opportunity to share your voice right here in Henderson, NV.

The contest runs from May 4 through May 30, 2026, giving local writers plenty of time to draft, revise, and submit their work. I love that the theme “Pathways” isn’t boxed in—it can mean physical journeys, emotional growth, life decisions, or even spiritual exploration. It’s one of those prompts that really lets you take things in your own direction, which makes it perfect for both seasoned writers and anyone just getting started.

Here’s what you need to know if you’re thinking about entering:

  • Open to Clark County residents ages 18+

  • Categories include: Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry

  • One entry per person

  • All work must be original and unpublished

  • AI-generated content is not allowed

  • Submission deadline: May 30 at 11:59 p.m.

It’s a straightforward process, and everything is submitted online—so no need to worry about paperwork or in-person drop-offs.

What I really appreciate about programs like this is how they bring the community together in a different way. Henderson Libraries has been part of the city since 1944, and initiatives like this show how they continue to support creativity, storytelling, and connection. Plus, seeing past winners recognized for their work always adds a little extra motivation to give it a shot.

If you’ve got a story to tell—or even just an idea you’ve been meaning to explore—this is a great chance to put it out there. You never know where one “pathway” might lead.
