These last couple of weeks, Gabe has been putting in a lot of extra work to get better and support his Cowboys Youth Football team. He’s had summer practices, a quarterback camp in San Diego, and even a session with one of the UNLV coaches after Dad was able to call in a favor.
It’s not lost on me that our family is fortunate to have the resources, connections, and time to pour into our kids. Some families in our league don’t have that same cushion. Youth football can be expensive: league dues, uniforms, helmets, pads, and time off work for games and practices all add up quickly.

💧 $100M upgrade boosts Lake Mead input
The Gist: Henderson has wrapped up a $100 million upgrade to its Kurt R. Segler Water Reclamation Facility, giving the city a lot more room to treat wastewater. The facility can now handle up to 44 million gallons a day, up from 32 million. That treated water is part of the larger system that sends water back toward Lake Mead through the Las Vegas Wash.
Why It Matters: Water is always a big deal here, even when we’re not thinking about it. This upgrade helps Henderson keep up with growth while making better use of the water we already have. By treating more wastewater and sending it back into the regional system, the city is helping support Lake Mead and Southern Nevada’s long-term water supply.
🏡 A national nod for Historic Boulder City
The Gist: Boulder City earned national Main Street accreditation, joining Yerington and Midtown Reno as one of only three Nevada communities with the recognition. The designation follows years of work to support local businesses, care for downtown, and preserve the town’s historic character. It can also help bring in grant funding to update roughly 400 buildings from the 1930s and 1940s.
Why It Matters: Boulder City’s charm is a big part of what people love about it. This recognition can help protect its historic, small-town character while easing some of the cost for local business owners.
⛸ A cool way to beat the heat
The Gist: The City of Henderson and America First Center are offering free public ice skating sessions on select dates from June through November 2026 for skaters of all ages and experience levels. While admission is free, you must register online in advance. Upcoming sessions include June 17 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and June 27 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Why It Matters: When summer temperatures hit those brutal triple digits, finding affordable ways to keep the family active indoors is a lifesaver. This is a fantastic community perk that gives neighbors a fun, budget-friendly way to gather and stay cool together.

Once on the lake, the scenery becomes the main attraction, with calm water, mountain views, and plenty of space to explore. It’s a popular pick for both first-timers and regulars looking for an easy outdoor escape.
