I know I talk about this often, but I cannot overstate how much jiu-jitsu has affected our family. I stumbled into jiu-jitsu six years ago during COVID. After a decade of boxing, it was time for a change, and I started this journey at 41 years old. When we moved to Vegas in 2022, I stumbled into 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu in Henderson by accident. It was the closest gym to our new house.
My kids do jiu-jitsu, my wife met her best friend sitting in the stands with the other parents, and my social circle in Vegas is mostly from meeting other practitioners!
I’m healthier, happier, and more skilled at 47 than I was at 37. 📚 Henderson preschool program grows
The Gist: Enrollment in Henderson’s Valley View Recreation Center Preschool has grown nearly 22% over the past year. To meet rising demand, the city is adding classroom space at Valley View and building a second city-operated preschool in Cadence, which is expected to open in fall 2027.
Why It Matters: More preschool classrooms will give Henderson families additional options as they prepare their children for kindergarten. These programs help young children build confidence, develop social and academic skills, and become comfortable with the routines of a classroom.
💜 Henderson to honor Purple Heart recipients
The Gist: Henderson will host a National Purple Heart Day ceremony at 8 a.m. on Aug. 7 at Purple Heart Plaza in the Water Street District. The event will honor military members wounded or killed in combat and recognize all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Why It Matters: If you have a loved one who served or simply want to show your support for veterans, this ceremony is a meaningful way to honor their sacrifices. It’s also a chance for the community to come together and remember those who gave so much in service to our country.
