In honor of Arbor Day, the City of Henderson is launching a free tree giveaway for residents of the Pittman neighborhood on Friday, April 26. The event, which will take place at Wells Park, offers the first 100 attendees a drought-resistant tree and a complimentary bag of soil, encouraging greener yards and cooler homes as summer approaches.
Located east of Boulder Highway, near Galleria Drive and Warm Springs Road, the Pittman neighborhood is the target of this community-centered initiative. With rising summer temperatures and an ongoing need for water conservation, the distribution of drought-resistant trees addresses both environmental and quality-of-life concerns for local residents.
The giveaway is being supported by Star Nursery and Nevada Plants, two organizations experienced in desert landscaping and native plant use.
The event is part of a broader effort supported by the Inflation Reduction Act, highlighting federal investment in urban greening and climate resilience. The day’s activities will feature remarks from notable figures including:
Congresswoman Dina Titus
Councilwoman Monica Larson
Assistant City Manager Angela Summers
Their presence underscores the collaboration between federal, city, and local organizations to improve livability in underserved neighborhoods through thoughtful environmental action.
